Job Overview:

We are actively hiring a Design Trainer to assist with the training and onboarding of design technicians and new hires across multiple teams. A successful Design Trainer will be self-motivated, adaptable to change, and a strong problem solver with a focus on fostering the development of our design team’s skills. This position is in-person at our new, state-of-the-art office building, in Dove Valley, Colorado, located 15 miles south of Denver, Colorado. The ideal candidate has working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, mapping, and/or other technical programs. If you are interested in building and maintaining a training program you are encouraged to apply. This position requires up to 10% of travel where the employee will drive a non-commercial company vehicle. Position Expectations:

  • Serve as the primary trainer and mentor for Design Technicians, new hires, and provide technical guidance and support throughout the onboarding and development process.
  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve training materials, programs, and documentation related to utility design, customer service, company procedures, and industry standards.
  • Train our design team to read and interpret multiple types of construction drawings (one lines, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) to determine the job scopes.
  • Facilitate instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on training sessions to ensure employees gain the knowledge and skills required to perform their roles effectively.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through assessments, field observations, quality reviews, and coaching sessions, providing timely feedback and development plans.
  • Partner with leadership, subject matter experts, and utility customers to identify training needs and address knowledge gaps across the organization.
  • Promote consistency in design best practices, processes, and compliance with customer requirements, company policies, engineering standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor changes to utility standards, software applications, workflows, and procedures and incorporate updates into training curricula as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, best practices, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Support employees in the successful use of design tools, GIS applications, SAP, customer systems, and other ancillary technology platforms utilized by the organization.
  • Track training completion, maintain training records, and provide reporting on employee progress, competency, and certification requirements.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages engagement, knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Travel as needed to field locations, branch offices, customer sites, or training events to support training and operational objectives.
  • Aid in performing driver test evaluations for new hires as required for their positions
  • Actively communicate with trainees, supervisors, customers, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure training objectives and business needs are met.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous utility design experience.
  • Experience working with underground utilities.
  • Experience working in SAP platform.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a design, construction, or related field.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of GIS or similar mapping software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with all customers (internal/external).
  • Must possess and maintain an appropriate and valid Driver’s License for the state in which the primary work functions are performed.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build relationships.
  • Excellent analytical skills with high-level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to be effective and efficient.
  • Must be comfortable and effective working in an environment with changing demands, delays and responding to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to maintain and protect confidential information.
