The Advanced Technology Directorate/Advanced Systems Department is seeking an innovative Sr. AI/ML Engineer (Sr. Project Engineer - Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) to work on the nation’s leading research and development challenges for future ISR architectures. The Advanced Systems Department helps customers architect new systems and capabilities, including effectively embracing advancements in autonomy and AI/ML. The work innovating new architectures for the deployment of functions to vehicle platforms and identifying ways that Aerospace can help realize these advancements. Our next team member will have the opportunity to influence an organization developing and operating high priority, transformational demonstration systems.

This position requires 100% on site work in Chantilly, VA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading a portfolio of projects to apply Aerospace AI/ML expertise to support development of new capabilities for ISR architectures. Examples of these challenges include enterprise orchestration, human-machine teaming, and vehicle autonomy.
  • Coordinating a team of technical contributors, and act as spokesperson for the group to customers, identifying novel AI/ML based solutions for enterprise level problems.
  • Exploring solutions for ensuring trust in autonomy applications.
  • Exploring solutions to ease transition of new tools from R&D demonstrations to baseline systems.
  • Working directly with Government, other FFRDC and SETA staff to design and implement ground-breaking roadmaps and strategy.
  • Developing effective recommendations and strategies to advance customer vision.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Senior Project Engineer-Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Master's Degree in a relevant engineering, mathematics, or science field
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in aerospace, defense, or related technical fields
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques or advanced analytical methods to complex technical problems
  • Experience utilizing a diverse range of capabilities to solve technical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and presentations
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving with ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with government stakeholders and leadership
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
