Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Electronics Test Engineer for the AMU (Auxiliary Management Unit) to join our BMS Test team. In this role, you will be responsible for executing design verification and validation testing at the component, board, and system level for our AMU hardware.

Physically, the AMU PCBA sits inside the AMU Panel assembly along with the HIgh Voltage DC Shunt board which is responsible for measuring efficiency of our system, UPS, and PSUs. It acts as a critical zone controller responsible for communication, network security, high-voltage/high-current sensing, power distribution, actuation, safety/fault management, and UPS management.

You will ensure that AMU electronics meet stringent functional, reliability, safety, and compliance requirements through structured test campaigns. You’ll collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to validate designs that are central to the safe and reliable operation of our multi-megawatt battery systems. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the scaling of our battery technology and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do

  • Test Strategy & DVP: Develop comprehensive test plans, DVP&Rs, and verification protocols for the AMU PCBA and its integrated panel assembly components.
  • Communication Protocol Verification: Validate safety-critical and non-safety communication interfaces including CAN-FD (to ZMUs), Ethernet (to ZMUs and upstream QMU), and dedicated RS485 (for UPS management).
  • Sensing Subsystem Validation: Design and execute test setups to verify precision sensing capabilities: Pack HV voltage (-1 to 1600V via HVDC Shunt resistor divider), Pack HV current (-500A to 500A via shunt R4), 48V PSU/UPS monitoring (0-60V), 48V total current draw (0-40A), and auxiliary temperatures.
  • Actuation & Power Distribution: Verify HV contactor control (pack connect/disconnect), heater SSR control, and power routing from dual 48V PSUs and the 48V UPS down to the ZMUs.
  • Safety & Fault Management: Rigorously test Hardware Over-Current Protection, fault loop logic, and Functional Safety (FuSa) testing.
  • Data Analysis & Root-Cause: Analyze test data, generate detailed reports, and collaborate with design engineers to root-cause board or firmware anomalies found during testing.
  • Test Automation: Contribute to test automation frameworks (utilizing Pytest) to optimize repeatability and scale verification throughput.

What you'll bring:

  • 4+ years of experience in PCBA hardware testing. Must have robust board-level and system-level validation experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in firmware verification, utilizing Pytest or similar unit testing frameworks. Comfort with debugging tools, Linux environments, and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Hands-on experience with test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers).
  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage/high-current test instrumentation (power supplies, electronic loads)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage test plans, execute verification activities, and communicate findings effectively.
  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of communication protocols (CAN-FD, Ethernet, RS485), power distribution topologies, and functional safety frameworks.
